As some of you may remember, back in July, I received a basically free Volvo from a family friend who had gotten a Mercedes. The car, who was named "Gavin" by my friends turned out to be a really fun "Summer Project". I enjoyed countless trips to local junkyards to find little hard to find pieces, the hardest to find being a drivers side turn signal. With the help of my friends, we did our best to improve the appearance both inside and out, even going as far as installing newer seats from a 98 Volvo S70. I also got to experience the joy of taking the car a to a local mudpit, where I was able to outperform my friends RWD Dodge Ram. I probably ended up investing $450 or so into the car, but in my opinion, it was compleatly worth it for all of the fun times that were had. I had tried lisiting it on Craigslist, swede speed, and the 24 Hours of Lemons forums, hoping to get about $500 for it. The car forums never really had any hits, but I got plenty of responses on Craigslist, most by rather sketchy seeming individuals, one of which even went by the name: Spooky Dooky, I'm seriously not kidding, a guy named spooky Dooky wanted to buy my car. I found a pamphlet for an organization called Wheels4Hope, and I decided to give them a call, as I figured that it wasn't worth getting stabbed or robbed for a $500 car on craigslist. Wheels4Hope is an organization which fixes up old cars, and then sells them at a subsidized price of $500 to low income people who have completed job training programs within the Greensboro NC Area, and who are in need of reliable transportation. 30 minutes ago, a volunteer came to pick up the car, and for the first time since I got car, it wouldn't start, so they had to get a tow truck. I guess Gavin didn't want to leave. I am certainly hoping that Gavin can be fixed up by this great organization, and be sold to a deserving person.
Sorry for any grammatical or spelling errors, I'm typing this from my iPotato.

Great job finding a place to donate it. It will be used well. Or, for meth deals, one of the other. Seriously, though, when I got rid of the first car I ever owned, an '88 VW Fox, I donated it to a local shelter for battered women. They auction the cars off and the proceeds benefit the shelter. The guy said my car would probably end up somewhere in Central America, which is closer to it's birthplace of Brazil. I wonder if it's still running...

this place has a whole warehouse of parts, and had 4 nearly identical 850s as parts cars, so I think that this one will end up in a good, local, loving home.

I'm really excited to see what they end up doing with the car. From the sounds of things, it will probably be a program car, rather than them selling it off.
